Sharing one budget as a household

Maya and Jordan share one budget. Maya's ChatGPT files her Visa purchases on Sundays, and Jordan's Claude enters his invoices when they are paid. Nobody shares a password, every entry shows who made it, and the Activity screen is the household's shared record of what happened. Here is how to set up a household so it stays that way.

What you'll do

Step 1

One budget, two people

Everyone starts with a budget of their own. It becomes a household when a second person joins: open the budget switcher, choose Start a household, and invite them. This needs the Household plan. Maya started the household, and Jordan was invited, with his own sign-in. Both of them see the same envelopes, accounts, and goals. There is one budget, not two copies that slowly stop matching. Who is in the household, and their roles, are managed under Settings → Account, in You and your household.

The person who started the household is its admin. Members do the budgeting (filing, assigning, moving money between envelopes, adding accounts), but three things only the admin can do: delete an account, remove a bank, and close a budget. Those are the actions that can lose history, so one person is responsible for them.

Settings, the Account tab: the theme, cashflow on Budget, live updates, and your sign-in profile
Settings → Account: your profile, how the app looks, and how it tells you what others in the household did.

Step 2

A key for each person and each chat

Each chat gets its own key, created in Settings → Agents and named after the person and the agent: maya-chatgpt, jordan-claude. A key is shown only once, is limited to what that chat is allowed to do, and can never create another key. The name matters: every entry records the key that made it, so the register and Activity can show who filed what.

In claude.ai or ChatGPT there is an easier way: add Mintro as a connector at mcp.mintro.money/mcp and sign in when it asks. There is no key to copy, and the chat acts as the person who signed in, with that person's role.

Settings, the Agents tab: connection settings for your agent, and example prompts
Settings → Agents: the connection settings to paste into your agent's app, and examples of what to ask it. Each chat gets its own key, created above them.

Step 3

Activity is the household's shared record

Activity lists every change, each line naming the person or agent who made it: Maya's agent adding a transaction from the bank, Maya applying the cashflow plan Tighter November to the budget, Jordan's agent entering his invoice when it is paid. It answers “who did that?” before anyone has to ask, and it is where a person catches up after a week away. Across the top, Activity says whether anything needs you (bank transactions waiting, a bank that needs signing in again, a refused request) and counts the changes in the last 24 hours and the last 7 days. On the left you narrow the list: search for an envelope, account, payee or any word; choose the last 24 hours, 7, 30 or 90 days, or two dates of your own; choose one person or one agent under Who made the change; or pick a kind of change such as money moved or bills. The chart above the list shows how many changes were made each day, split between you, your agents and Mintro itself. Open any line to see exactly what it changed, from what to what.

Activity: a strip saying nothing needs you, 64 changes in the last 24 hours and 79 in the last 7 days; search, When, and Who made the change on the left (Everyone 79, You 65, Maya's agent 14); a chart of changes each day from Oct 22 to Oct 28; and the changes newest first: Maya's agent adding 1 transaction, then Maya applying the cashflow plan Tighter November to the budget and saving the plans Tighter November, Top up the fund and RRSP before Christmas
Activity: who did what, whether it was you, someone you share the budget with, or an agent. The filters on the left choose who, what and when; the chart counts the changes made each day.

Step 4

Switch off one key and keep the rest

When a chat is no longer used, a laptop is lost, or a bookkeeper's contract ends, revoke that key. Nothing else changes. The other person's chat keeps working, and everything that key did stays in the budget with its name on it. The security view on Activity shows keys being created and revoked, and anything a key was refused, so if a key tries something it isn't allowed to do, you can read about it there.

Activity's Security tab: nobody was refused this week, 0 security events shown, security events kept for 90 days, the same filters on the left, Changes each day saying there were no changes on these days so there is nothing to chart, and Nothing to report
Activity → Security, where created keys, revoked keys, unlinked banks, exports and refused requests appear, kept for 90 days. Here there is nothing to report: nobody was refused this week.
