What is Mintro, actually?
Honestly: a database for your budget, an MCP server on top, and just enough business logic to keep agents on course — totals that always add up, an inbox that never drops a transaction, history that can't be quietly rewritten. How you budget is between you and your agent. Mintro houses the data and keeps the context — your method, targets, and the notes your agent leaves itself — so every fresh agent session picks up where the last one left off.
Is there a free plan?
Yes — student-sized on purpose: 2 manual accounts, unlimited envelopes, targets, papers, and agents. No card required. When that stops being enough, Manual is $2/month for unlimited manual import, and Linked 4 at $6/month adds live bank feeds.
Can my agent sign up for me?
No — and that is deliberate. Signing up, verifying your email, and paying are the moments that prove a human is behind the budget. It takes two minutes at app.mintro.money. Everything after that — envelopes, filing, imports, plans, reports — is the agent's job, and it never needs your password to do any of it.
Does my agent see my bank login?
Never. Bank linking happens on Plaid's own pages; credentials and MFA codes go to Plaid or your bank and never pass through Mintro or any agent. An agent can start a link and watch for the connection — only you authenticate. If any agent ever asks for your bank password, that is a bug in the agent: refuse.
What if my bank isn't supported — or I don't want to connect one?
Export transactions from your bank (CSV is fine) and hand the file to your agent. It imports them straight into your budget, deduplicated, and files them like anything else. The free plan covers 2 accounts; Manual at $2/month is unlimited. It is also the permanent fallback for unsupported banks.
When do live bank feeds arrive?
Live Canadian bank connections are waiting on Plaid production approval — expected soon. The moment it lands, linking opens on the paid plans and imports keep working alongside.
Do I need MCP?
No. Mintro is a plain REST API at api.mintro.money — a key in an Authorization header and any agent that can make an HTTP request is in business. MCP is a convenience wrapper over that same API for clients that support connectors; it adds nothing you cannot do over HTTP. If your ChatGPT or Claude account can't add connectors — some business and enterprise plans don't allow them — use plain HTTP and tell your agent to read api.mintro.money/llms.txt first. Nothing is lost.
Which agents work?
Any agent that can make an HTTP request — Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, or something you run yourself; MCP is optional. Several at once is normal — each gets its own scoped key, and every entry records which one filed it.
Can I have a personal budget and a company budget?
Yes, simultaneously. Your personal budget bills you; an organization's budget bills the organization. Separate envelopes, separate keys, separate plans. A household is just a small organization: one shared budget, each person's agents with their own keys.
What is cashflow?
Thirty days behind you, thirty ahead, today in the middle. Last month is what posted. Projected is upcoming bills and income — the same rows as on the register. If a bill takes remaining below warn, the line says so while you can still move money.
What's a paper?
A written document on your budget — your method, your rules, a retirement plan. Your agent reads it and follows it; Mintro stores it verbatim and never executes it. Change the paper, change the behavior.
What does Mintro never do?
Move money. See your bank login. Sell your data. Show ads. Ship a method you have to obey. The subscription is the entire business model.
What currency is pricing in?
USD, stated on every price. Your transactions and envelopes keep whatever currency they came in — budget in anything; we don't care what currency you use.
Can I leave?
Any time. One call (or one prompt) exports your entire budget as a single document — envelopes, every filed transaction, who filed it, your papers. Deleting your account removes bank connections at Plaid, revokes keys, and deletes your data, export in hand first.
